Angelina® Fiber:
2002-2003 Trends

This season, the renewed interest in stones, diamonds, metals and crystals as they break, scatter and reflect the light, becomes a source of inspiration and beauty and instigates an interesting dialogue for visionary designers to incorporate new discoveries, experimental technologies, intelligent playing and modes of expression into stunning textiles. Light in particular is a theme rich in contrasts, brilliancies, colors and poetry, reflecting our desire for luxury. 'Only with light can fabric's true qualities be investigated', notes Jean-Paul Leclercq, curator, 'Jouer la Lumiere', a current exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. Light dances brilliantly across animated surfaces contaminated with the soft magic of Angelina® fibers by Meadowbrook Inventions. A beautiful metamorphosis occurs as luminous interference breaks up the linear surfaces and creates iridescent reflections with sparkle.

Angelina® fibers are very much keeping in with the trends for the season with its search for splashes of light within harmonies and a strong desire for luxury and novel products. Soft and radiant atmospheres are 'illuminated by notes of fresh, iridescent mother-of-pearl, almost black versicolors with metallic reflections, synthetic, acid and garish green, turquoise, pink and red plastics and a range of half-tones, with a translucent and virtually untarnished brilliance reminiscent of crystalline rocks.' Bright metallized plastic strips are fine and supple, iridescent or transparent, and twisted in medium gauges with wool, cashmere or mohair and with rayon or acetate for fine gauges and circular knitting, giving light colors a sparkling champagne look.

Angelina® fibers can be used to incorporate different aspects of light, depth and color movement within a yarn, woven or nonwoven fabric. Atmospheric vaporous strands of Angelina® resemble wisps of air creating an intriguing mysterious effect or can become distorted and vibrate, giving the illusion of movement and dimension for a chameleon effect or... appear like a luminous, radiant, glowing energy embedded within color.

Multi-melanges with natural fibers are transformed and transposed with subtle radiance and luminescent-iridescent highlights, soft metallic highlights, heavy metal effects, clear sparkle highlights, brilliant color shifts or ultra high-tech color refractive sparks in heavier concentrations, depending on the Angelina® denier and fiber saturation levels. Even denim is given a more precious, almost shot look, when touched with Angelina®.

When strewn with lustrous strands of Angelina®, mohair lace becomes more precious, delicate and fluid, taking on 'translucency of a spider's web'. Angelina® enlivens felt surfaces or, when loosely woven with alpaca and cashmere, resembles nesting. Various colors and deniers produce modern and technical surfaces-shimmering, shot yarns and striated effects or veined and marbled looks.
